Sick Days

K's been out sick all week with a nasty sinus infection, the result of a really nasty virus. Her coughing got so bad, I was begining to think it was whooping cough again. Luckily, she is finally improving. I don't think my sanity could take whopping cough again.


This week wasn't all bad. We cuddled, we napped, we read books, we watched TV, and, of course, we crafted. We tired our hand at chinese brush painting. Katherine likes painting Coi.






And Pagodas.

Just needs some fringe.

I've been busy.

I pretty much followed the Gryffindor House Scarf Pattern on atypically.knit. For economy sake, I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Claret and Gold. And for speed, I used my Bond Fashion Knitter with 50 needles in the bed. The Bond Fashion Knitter knits, and thats all. So the result is a long roll of stockinette stitch. So I folded the 50 stitch wide scarf in half and used mattress stitch to seam the long edge. My guage turned out to be 4 stiches per inch and 4 rows per inch, a bit bigger than the pattern. The final dimensions of the knitted scarf, minus the fringe is about 6 inches by 90 inches. I plan to make the fringe a bit longer than in the pattern to account for the increased length.

I made this scarf as a practice for a scarf I'm making a very special "Potter" fiiend of mine.

K's been home sick. She was home yesterday, waiting out the 24 hours after the fever was gone. I love those hours, filled with puzzles and books and pencils and paper. Lots of cuddles and conversation. Wonderful.

Only Three Days, and She's Taken Over

Three days of watching Mommy play with her new Fashion Knitter and K had to try it. And what does she do first? Gryfindor, of course. Her own pattern, naturally.

Look what I got!

Maybe a year ago I bought a Bond Fashion Knitter, at WalMart for less $27 + tax. (Original price, $88.00!) Never really had time to do much with it. Having time in abundance at present, I sent my dear Hubby into the basement to dig it out. Once I got the hang of it, not hard really, I made this scarf in less than an hour.

I didn't even get a chance to wash or block it. K proclaimed it HER "Scroll Scarf" and scarpered with it.

Scarlett's new venture.

Another Mandrake!!!!

Just after posting about K's Mandrake costume, I did a little search and look what I found:

Too Cool!

My Little Mandrake

A few years ago, just before K read "Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone," she wanted to go to a Harry Potter costume party at the local library. She wanted to dress up as something fun and she was just entering that age when girls essentially communicate through high pitched squeeing.

Happy = SQUEEE!

Sad = SQUEEE!

Surprised = SQUEEE!

Upset = SQUEEE!

So, naturally,

Imagine a library filled with little Harrys and Rons and Hermiones, all chasing a tiny mandrake and trying to pull her out of her pot. And every librarian in the place laughing hysterically.

Priceless.

Skele-Gro Label

Janice on Harry Potter Crafts said she liked my little Skele-Gro and that she was inspired to make her own. I thought I'd give her a start and post the jpg I created for for the label (took me a ton of freeze framing to finally figure out the wording!)
